Free On-Site Consultation Service

NCMC is looking for a few good people…
Interested in possibly being on NCMC’s list of potential FOCoS consultants?

Free On-site Consultation Service (FOCoS) is offered by NCMC to up to two qualifying museums each year. FOCoS provides advice and guidance to small or emerging museums using the resources and expertise resident in established museums around the state. As a result of FOCoS, not only do museums receive valuable feedback on their programs and operations, but the museum community and council are strengthened through the collaborative effort of professionals reaching out to share their knowledge of the field.

A two-person team of NCMC consultants is assigned to a selected qualifying site. Consultants visit and tour their assigned site over a two-day period and together offer professional advice, in the form a written report, relating to needs specified as priorities by the recipient site.

While there are provisions allowing for the reimbursement of eligible expenses such as hotel, food and mileage, as well as a small honorarium, persons interested in serving as consultants should not be interested for financial reasons. Rather, persons interested in serving as consultants should be interested because they wish to help provide needed assistance to a deserving institution.

Ideally, all consultants should be current members of NCMC. All persons interested in getting on NCMC’s list of potential consultants will be vetted before being added to the list.

If you are interested in learning more about getting on NCMC’s list of potential FOCoS consultants,  please email NCMC’s vice president.
