NCMC Awards 2008

Everyone appreciates a pat on the back and a certificate on the wall!
North Carolina Museums Council recognizes dedication to the profession with a series of Professional and Service awards. This is your opportunity to nominate a colleague, a volunteer, or a mentor. Recognition for service will be awarded at the 2008 conference in Fayetteville. Nominations will be accepted with an extended deadline -- all entries must be postmarked by SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2008, to be considered for the awards programs

Professional and Service awards include:
• Dennis T. Lawson Memorial Award;
• William T. Alderson Lifetime Achievement Award;
• Student Award;
• Service Awards:
--Stewardship;
--Staff Contribution;
--Individual Volunteer;
--Corporation, Foundation, or Organization;
• Professional Awards:
--Early Career;
--Mid Career;
--Senior Career.

Multi-Media Awards
Creativity runs rampant in the museum profession and NCMC recognizes annually the Best of the Best. Multi-Media awards encompass all forms of creativity: print in a multitude of categories, electronic media, and audio/video production. Entries must have been produced in 2007. Review the criteria and compile your entries -- time is running out!

The Purpose of NCMC Awards

Awards are designed to recognize excellence in the museum profession, honor contributions made to museums, encourage students to pursue museum careers, and stimulate seasoned professionals to continue outstanding work.

Who is eligible for an NCMC Professional and Service Award?

Everyone in the museum community! From administrators and exhibit designers to registrars and volunteers -- anyone associated with museums, historic sites, science centers, archives and related facilities in North Carolina is eligible.

General Requirements

All entries must include a completed nomination or entry form and support materials. Support materials vary for different awards. Nomination or entry forms may be copied for additional entries. Deadline for entries is: postmarked by Saturday, February 2, 2008. NOTE: It is not mandatory an award be given in any category.

Nomination Process

For Professional and Service Awards, please follow nomination process explained in the Professional and Service Awards Criteria. Additional letters of support, newspaper articles, newsletter articles, and other documentation are welcome. You can access the Nomination Form here.

For Multi-Media Awards, review the Multi-Media Awards Criteria and complete a separate Entry Form for each multi-media submission. Print two (2) copies of the entry form. Include one with each entry and keep one for your records. Submit two (2) copies of material (brochure, invitation, media kit, etc.) in its original form.

• Electronic media (web sites): include web site address on entry form, and one copy on CD-ROM

• Print: original format, black & white or color

• Promotional creative: one copy of each media format represented in the entire campaign package

• Radio: cassette tape or CD-ROM (MediaPlayer format)

• Television: VHS format.

Note: Materials submitted become the property of the NCMC.

Selection and Notification

Award applicants will be judged by the Awards Committee. Winners will be notified prior to the deadline for conference pre-registration. The 2008 Conference & Annual Meeting in Fayetteville, N.C. will be held at the Hilton Doubletree from March 4-7; the Awards Ceremony will be on Thursday, March 6.
