NC Pottery Center, SeagroveInternship Money Available for Museums

Applications for summer or fall, 2008 internships will be due by January 15 , 2008.

Do you want to offer an internship but find your museum strapped for cash? Would you like a student intern with new ideas, energy and enthusiasm? NCMC is offering a paid internship program for summer or fall 2008.

NCMC will give the winning institution $500 to pay for an intern and will assist in advertising. The 2007 award was presented to the Hickory Museum of Art, Hickory, at the 2007 Annual Meeting & Conference.

Museums that would like an intern are encouraged to send a one-page letter of intent to the Student Affairs Committee. Please include specific information detailing 

Also include any benefits you can offer the intern such as free housing, additional money, free transportation and parking. The deadline for 2008 is January 15, 2008.

The Winning Museum

The museum winning the internship composes the intern's job description and sends a copy to the Student Affair Committee chair. The museum advertises the internship, but also the position is posted on the NCMC website. The format should be similar to a regular advertisement for any museum job. It should also include the benefits and stipend and method of application.

Intern Selection

A.  Applicants for the internship position should submit to the advertising museum a NC state employees application form (available at any state institution) along with:

B.  The museum will interview the candidates to select the one who would be most suitable intern. Starting dates are flexible, but the internship must be completed within one year of stipend award.

C.  The museum will submit an evaluation of the internship program to the Student Affairs Committee within one month of the completion of the internship.

D.  The student is invited to describe and evaluate their internship in a panel session of the next annual NCMC meeting following completion of the internship .
