The purpose of the Student Affairs Committee is to involve students in the museum profession. The committee provides students with the opportunity to interact with professionals in the North Carolina Museums Council through meetings and conferences.
Student members receive:
The best reason for a student to be a member of the North Carolina Museums Council is the annual conference. Here you have many opportunities to network with members of your field; pursue diverse professional development opportunities; and attend insightful workshops, panels, and discussions. The many museum professionals at the conference will be a valuable resource to you as you shape your career.
Even if you are not currently a member, you may apply for the Student Memorial Award to attend the conference for free. The award winner, and up to three additional scholarship winners, will receive a free one-year NCMC student membership.
To join NCMC, just fill out and submit the application. For more information about student membership, please contact students@ncmuseums.org.
Suggestions for preparing your resume/CV and getting ready for an interview
Internship Money Available
Students have the opportunity to earn some money while learning about museum operations and programming through a paid internship made possible by the North Carolina Museums Council. One internship is awarded annually. More details.
Mentorship Opportunity for Students
A great way to learn new skills and get your foot in a museum's door is with a mentor. With NCMC's mentor program you spend time regularly with your mentor-- getting career advice and gaining experience. To participate in the mentor program please contact students@ncmuseums.org for an application.
Special Sessions at the Annual Meeting
1. A panel of students will present examples of the work they have done in museums.
2. A resume workshop is offered by museum professionals to review and improve student resumes.
3. And an additional poster session (student proposals are requested by January 15, 2008) is planned for the 2008 Annual Meeting - for more details, click here.
