The City of Raleigh Historic Resources and Museum (HRM) Program manages, protects, and programs the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department's cultural assets for the current and future use and enjoyment of the citizens of Raleigh. The HRM Program is responsible for both programs and operations at Pullen Park Historic Attractions, John Chavis Memorial Park Historic Attractions, Mordecai Historic Park, the City of Raleigh Museum, the Raleigh Trolley, the Pope House, the Latta House and University Site, the Borden Building, Moore Square, Fred Fletcher Amphitheater and Stone Circle at Fletcher Park, and the Tucker House.
The HRM Program Moore Square Assistant Director is a professional, supervisory position that acts as the programming and operations manager facilitating all events, rentals, and public/private programs at Moore Square Park. Position is responsible for hiring and supervising paid part-time staff as well as volunteer personnel. This position will be responsible for public and private programs, events and rentals, and daily operations at Moore Square. Position requires high level of customer service to both external and internal customers. The position will primarily support Moore Square but will have some responsibility across all HRM sites. This position will report to the Moore Square Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises participants in a variety of classes, programs, rentals, and events that are social, historic, educational, and/or cultural at Moore Square. Serves as program and operations manager and assists in training, supervising, and coordinating the schedules of part-time staff, volunteers, youth employees, and others.
Assists Park director with daily park operations including, opening/closing, park rule enforcement, visitor center and retail operations.
On site weekend manager at HRM sites in rotation with other FTE PD-1 8/10
Work with HRM staff to research, plan, and execute rentals, events and programs in support of the HRM program and the Raleigh PRCR department mission, vision, and values.
Description of Work: (continued) Departmental responsibility as liaison for programs, events and rentals and subject matter expert for internal and external groups.
Supports public/private Moore Square partnership opportunities.
Bachelor's degree in museum studies, education, history, public history, parks and recreation, or specific content area or field of expertise, or equivalent required. Master's degree preferred. Experience managing historic sites, museums, cultural centers, municipal parks may be substituted for education.
Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience in managing facilities or sites, museums, cultural centers, municipal parks, or similar.
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
Knowledge and understanding of professional practices for historic sites or municipal recreation management. Demonstrated proficiency and compliance for City operating procedures and software. Ability to work in a non-traditional office environment and be able to multitask and transition to differing job functions and responsibilities as needed.
